i. Avila Beach Music Festival
If you happen to be visiting Avila in June, you don’t want to miss the annual Avila Beach Music Festival. Not only is it a day full of great music, the proceeds from the concert also help to support OPTIONS, a local charity organization that focuses on helping individuals with developmental disabilities.

ii. Salisbury Vineyards’ School House Rock
Held annually, Salisbury Vineyards combines great wine with great music every other weekend from May to August Sunday afternoons. Featuring local bands and music, and of course great wine from Salisbury Vineyards, this can make for a great activity on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

iii. The Mozart Festival
This two week festival is dedicated to providing the community with great classical music by talented and professional musicians. In addition the festival provides educational outreach activities geared towards the whole family. Admission to this nearby San Luis Obispo musical delight is free, and the festival is generally held the first two weeks of July.

iv. POPS By the Sea
If you happen to be getting some last minute vacationing in before school starts, you might want to take the kids and head over to the Avila Beach Resort on labor day weekend for “POPS by the Sea”. This concert features the SLO (San Luis Obispo) Symphony Orchestra, playing a variety of popular tunes. From rock and roll to Broadway tunes-this isn’t classical music like you remember it.

v. Avila Beach Blues Festival
The Avila Beach Blues festival is a stand by in the tradition of concerts on the beach. Enjoy the beach side atmosphere of the “Beach Bowl” (a summer concert venue) and some fantastic blues music at the end of your day.

vi. Friday Night Summer Concerts in San Luis Obispo
The mission in San Luis Obispo is home to one of the better kept secrets of the area. There are free open-air concerts every Friday night through out the summer. Just a short drive if you’re staying in Avila-this is a great chance for some relaxing and inexpensive fun.

vii. Beach Bowl
The Beach Bowl is not a concert per se, but rather a venue at the Avila Beach Resort. Hosting a variety of artists, music festivals, and concerts throughout the year, you’ll want to make sure and find out what events are happening while you’re in town.

viii. California Polytechnic University
Should you feel the need for a little more culture and educational experience on your vacation, Avila is just a short drive 15 min. drive from Cal Poly. If you want something slightly off the beaten path, this is where you’ll find it. Featuring everything from comedy shows to African choirs, there’s always something happening.
